PHOENIX- Arizona bill banning transgender children from playing in female sports has gotten a reaction out of ASU students. Many students were unaware of the bill when asked about it initially, but after gaining some information there was a clear passion for transgender rights. “I feel like a lot of people who aren’t transgender or aren’t a part of the LGBTQ+ community, don’t feel like it applies,” said Aaron Stigle in regards to trans rights and the stance on taking away their right to play in their respected gendered sport. Stigle went on to say “It feels ridiculous because that’s basically saying that they don’t care about transgender people having their rights acknowledged.” Another student Alyssa Aldaco said “Their issues are always overlooked because of their gender,” when initially asked how she felt about the current bill being passed. When talking about a middle ground for trans children competing against other trans children, some students agreed that a middle ground would be a good compromise between the two sides, “The middle ground has potential” said Gabby Zwall. Zwall also admits that while she doesn’t know much about the trans sports bill, she does know that a few people “argue about the game being compromised.” She continued her statement by saying “if trans people specifically are happy with it, we should be happy with it.” Zwall says that she can’t speak for the trans community because she’s not part of it, but will support what they feel is best.
